The logistics sector, which is vital for domestic and international trade, continued to serve during the epidemic days when trade slowed down. Since January, Mars Logistics has invested 12 thousand 100 square meters of warehouse and transfer center. Mars Logistics aims to provide domestic distribution services to manufacturers in Turkey’s 81 provinces.
One of the sectors most affected by the coronavirus epidemic was logistics. Many shipments could not be made, especially due to the closed borders in road transport. During this period, Turkey's leading logistics company Mars Logistics has made a series of investments to move in to their experience in international shipping operations inside Turkey. The company opened 3 new warehouses, including a 1,000-square-meter warehouse in Eskisehir in January, and 5,600 and 5,500-square-meter warehouses in Manisa in May. Mars Logistics, strengthened the domestic distribution services in Turkey's 81 provinces with these investments. It was also stated by the company that until the end of 2020, work on the establishment of new transfer centers in Ankara, Izmir, Bursa and Adana continues.
Stating that they offer all the services required by logistics with their expanded distribution channels in every province in Turkey an integrated manner, Mars Logistics Domestic Distribution Channels Development Manager Mahmut Yortaç said that they aim to support the domestic manufacturer as well. Yortaç said that, “The focus of our infrastructure investments, which we have systematized in 81 provinces, is to eliminate the borders of domestic producers and increase their access power. We offer our customers Complete and Partial Distribution, Cross-dock, Home Delivery, Lowbed Transport, Container Transport, Milkrun Operations, customer-specific dedicated vehicle and Micro Distribution services. We are also storing domestic distribution with the new warehouses we opened in Eskişehir and Manisa."
New investments are on the way
Mentioning that they have gained a great momentum in a short time and that they are aiming for a growth of 100% in 2020 in Domestic Distribution, Yortaç said regarding their future investments: "We work with about 50 different customers in sectors such as automotive supply industry, textile, household appliances, FMCG, construction, construction market. With the transfer and collection center we opened in Eskişehir at the beginning of the year and the two new warehouses we opened in Manisa in May, we took important steps in the domestic storage point. Until the end of 2020, our investment plan will be to provide partial micro-distribution services by opening new cross-dock and transfer centers in Ankara, Izmir, Bursa, Adana and different provinces."
The whole process from factory to delivery is under follow-up
Drawing attention to the importance of tracking in logistics operations, Mahmut Yortaç said, “For example, we have integrated our systems with our customers in household appliances sector. In this way, before the products are loaded from the factory, the barcodes are created and then the barcodes on the products are read and loaded into the vehicles with hand terminals. When the products reach the transfer center of Mars, they are scanned by hand terminal and downloaded to the warehouse. After the route planning is done on the software, the products are re-read and loaded on the vehicle and delivered to sellers, services or homes. Our customer can enter information such as product code, dispatch number, seller name into the system on the freight tracking screen and follow all the movements of that product over the system.”
